Manchester Museum of Science and Industry MOSI Review

We love Manchester and I particularly love Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. I have great memories of school trips from my childhood and my 8 year old twins and I loved exploring.
On the ground floor there is the textiles area where there are regular shows with explanations. It does get loud in there! There are also a few other areas to explore.
On the first floor you find a restaurant, currently not open but open as a picnic area. It’s lovely and roomy and generally pretty clean as there were staff coming and doing a quick clean regularly which was great.
There is also a book area with some sofa’s and a variety of books. A nice area especially for younger visitors.
My girls went off and explored the experiment area, looking at the different activities to see science in action.  It gave them independence to explore which was lovely to see.

Currently there is a lot of building work going on so there is only one building open so we decided we would leave after having our lunch and exploring the experiments area.

As we were leaving I saw a sign for light lab, FREE on the second floor. So I asked the girls if we should go and have a look, not really expecting much. We headed upstairs and found a room with tables with various light equipment. It was so wonderful.

Girls went straight for the optic fibre lights, there were signs on the table with explanations and there were some members of staff there too. A friendly staff member came over and explained about light travelling in straight lines and how it worked in the optical fibre by bouncing off the sides until the end point.
We then moved onto another table that had a lazer maze game sets on. I had never seen them before so we were trying to figure it out, when another lovely staff member came and explained how it worked and set my daughter a single task. She was actually really good at it that the lady gave her a harder one. It was lovely see them working together and my daughter learning.

The staff member then showed my girls an energy stick she had! My girls loved it. We’ve ordered one we found on amazon here!  It’s a great way to explain electricity and to see it light up and making buzzing sounds!
