Me, and kids aged 3, 8 and 14

Introduction

I really wanted us to learn more about plants and looked at easy ways we could do this and flower dissection came up. With it being spring there were lots of daffodils around.

I knew we would need a few daffodils, so I made sure we had enough for one each and couple spare, which was great as you’ll read about later!

We followed a youtube video which I’ll link to below.

Main items needed:

  • Flowers – daffodils
  • A cutting board, or some paper etc.
  • Scissors,
  • Tweezers, I used this one from amazon *
  • Professional Slanted Tweezers

  • Small sharp knife
  • Marker, pen or pencil (useful to make note of what you’ve found)

Please be careful as some flowers are poisonous so make sure young children know not to put hands near mouth and to wash their hand afterwards!

The Process

Place your paper or cutting board on your work area and start with taking the
spathe off.

Take the petals off one by one, there are 3 outer petals and 3 inner petals on a daffodil.

You are then left with the corona which looks like a crown, slowly take this off.

At this point, my 3 year old seemed to like my flower abd while I was helping the others, started to take mine apart

You are then left with the inside male female parts.

We followed this youtube video and came up with this in the end.

Conclusion

Such a great experience, highly recommend. Really easy to set up and most things you’ll have at home, just add flowers!!

Thanks for reading!
